Gentleman,

Re: DR SHEE HUNG YU

It has taken a few days for me to come to terms with the passing away of a very good friend and a true Wesleyite. I have known Dr Shee Hung while we were schoolboys at Wesley. However it was in England that I got to know him really well. We worked closely as members of the Wesley College OBU UK.

"Shee" as he is fondly known by his friends was a genuine supporter of our Alma mater. I have seen and received emails authored by him frankly speaking about the way The School was being run and the need to bring Wesley to her presyine glory.
He did not fear to take on anyone who he felt is responsible for the present state of affairs at Wesley. He urged that a clean up be brought about when suspicion was aroused of the state of affairs arose. At the Committee level here in London he would openly criticize those Senior members who do not pull their weight behind to support projects created to raise funds for Wesley.

I received his phone call one summer's day last year requesting that we meet to discuss the dire situation that was tearing the OBU UK apart. After my explanations he was convinced of an injustice where office bearers were suspend without even given a charge sheet. This was after a AGM was illegally called by only a certain section of the membership in contravention of the Constitution. No explaination was called for and no inquiry held yet they were suspended for the whims and fancies of one member who has since then been demasked. The suspension had been proposed by two illegible old Boys their membership having expired.

By then Shee was now convinced that this was done deliberately to keep members out so that interested parties can carry out their own agenda and that the OBU UK constitution was flouted all the way.

I was later informed that he had arranged having convinced President Senthil Sinniah that I be given a hearing after which my suspension was lifted.

I knew that he was genuine. All that he said he would do was done and at the last AGM the suspension was lifted and the Forty or so members came back to the fold once the siuspension was lifted.

Consequently he told me at the AGM later that we should never let injustice happen again. He made a very passionate speech about re- uniting all Wesleyites.

A hand full of disgruntled Old Wesleyites who still criticize Shee and Senthil for the stand that they took.

I have since then kept a very close link with Shee and would meet over Buriyani and Watlappam. When my festival Eid was announced he call me and said lets meet for Lump Rice nad watlapam only to be told by me that my wife was not calver enough to make lump rice but you are welcome for Buriyani and watlappam. he called me on the day of the Eid and told me that he was too tired and that we should meet up again later. The last i spoke to him was on Saturday 4th october 2008 when Wesley OBU UK rugby was in action in the Schools Touch rugby tournament.he informed me that he would be there and requested me to give direction to the venue. later on in the day he called me again to say that he would skip the event as he was feeling too tired. He suggested to me that in the event Wesley enters the Semi's we should give them a good feed. Wesley did enter the semi's...... .

Later that night his call was of a man tired with the strains and stresses of a seven day working week. Late into the night he sat examining papers and patients a father, a provider a brother, a son and a friend. He even played marriage counsellor to Peter two days before he died. A generous man he was who was never too far from his roots or his boots be they cricket or rugby. His great big heart worked overtime for the lives of people he did not even know. An appeal for a child who needed surgery and he wasted the money sent out as fast as it could go into safe hands. Doubt must have crept in to his mind after allegations were made in Colombo about the state of affair of the Welfare Society and the Administration as a whole.

He had a little time for himself and it was to humour us with funny emails and comments. Friendly banter, the cameraderie was always there.

He loved and respected his parents who lived with him ever grateful to Wesley, ever grateful to his teachers and to his multitude of friends. He was planning to contest in the Edmonton Council Elections on a Conservative ticket and chose Peter as his campaign Manager I am told!!

We can moan him in silence and ask why he took no time to have his own health checked and why after he dragged Peter back into the land of the living he had to leave us orphaned in a way.
But the Almight must have known that Shee was better off at his side, so who are we to ask.
May his sould rest in Peace.

God Bless!
Azahim Mohamed
