Azahim Mohamed 21st President of Festival of Cricket 2009/2010

Wesley OBU UK since its founding in 1992 has been very closely linked to the Festival of Cricket both as an associate member from 1992 and a permanent member since 1996. Our first captain was Harry Jaganathan and followed by Ranjith Perera, Ravi Subramanian, Sesiri Jayasena, Arooran, Roshan Perera and Vijanathan Jaganathan.

Our representatives at the FOC since 1992 were S Ramakrishna, Ananda Thevathasan, Azahim Mohamed, Sesiri Jayasena, Shirash Pathirana, Anura De Silva, Roshan Perera, Noel Joshua and Nilin Perera. Our reps have played a pivotal role within the FOC. With Wesley OBU UK reps holding positions as Office Bearers and Chairman of Sub Committees.

Ananda Thevathasan held the post of Treasurer for two successive years and also, held the post of Chairman Hospitality and Chairman Fund Raising. Ananda was elected for the post of President of the Festival of Cricket in 2001 and also, held the post as Joint President 2002.

Azahim Mohamed is one of the oldest representatives in the Festival of Cricket and served as Wesley OBU UK's representative for over 12yrs. He served as the Secretary of the FOC for two successive years in 2005 and 2006. He also, held the post of Cricket Chairman in 1999, 2003 and 2004. And was a cricket coordinator for over 5 years.

The Wesley OBU UK was proud to receive the news that at the Festival of Cricket Annual General Meeting held on 11 October 2009 Azahim Mohamed was elected the 21st President of the Festival of Cricket 2009/2010.

The 22nd Festival of Cricket 2010 will be held on Sunday 11th July 2010 at.

The 22nd Annual Festival of Cricket is to be held on Sunday 11 July 2010 at Winchmore Hill Cricket Club, Fords Grove, London N21 3ER.

Since its inception in 1989, FOC has grown to be the most popular event in the social calendar of the Sri Lankan community in the UK, where they enjoy excellent cricket, fun and excitement prevalent at inter-school Big Matches, combined with a very happy party atmosphere throughout the day with live music, UK and Sri Lankan trade stalls, international hot food stalls, beer tent, and children's entertainment. 25 teams from prominent Sri Lankan School Old Boys Associations will once again battle it out for the coveted FOC Challenge Trophy this year. Royal College OBA-UK team was crowned Champions of the FOC 2009 and received the 'OBA Challenge Trophy' whilst, Thurstan OBA-UK, were the runners-up. Zahira OBA-UK won the Plate and Mahinda College OBA-UK the runners-up.

FOC represents the largest gathering of Sri Lankans and their friends in the UK every year, and is organised by a committee, made up of representatives of 25 Sri Lankan Schools Old Boys Associations, resident in the UK. FOC is a non-profit organisation, non-commercial, non-political organisation which upholds harmony and unity amongst all Sri Lankan communities. The Festival also generates much goodwill and the recipients of this year's charity will again be the Cancer Hospital at Maharagama, and the Cancer Research UK.

Bank of Ceylon, the bankers to the Sri Lankan nation, has agreed to be the main sponsor of the Festival of Cricket 2010, for the fourth consecutive year. SriLankan Airlines extends its qualities of warmth, caring and friendliness to the FOC for the 22nd time is to be a co-sponsor of the event along with the Sri Lankan Tourist board and SM Call Dialog.

UK agreed to support the Principal M A P Fernando's request for the senior Rugger Coach's allowance. A donation of £560.00 towards the monthly allowance for the coach was sent direct to the Principal.

17th Festival of Cricket 2005 was held on Sunday 19 June 2005 at Civil Services Ground Chiswick, London W4. Wesley OBU was led by Alagaratnam Arooran. Wesley did well to beat Nalanda in the fist round but lost to Zahira OBA in the second round.

Over 35's cricket Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Cricket Associations UK was held on Sunday 17 July 2005 at Post Office Ground Sudbury.- Wesley OBU was led by Sesiri Jayasena. (Wesley were champions last year) lost in the Simi Finals to
St Joseph's OBA.

The 3rd Six a Side Touch
Rugby Tournament sponsored by SriLankan Airways was held on Sunday 28th August 2005 at Shenley Cricket Centre. The Wesley OBU was led by A N Niyazee.

Wesley did well to beat Nalanda in round one - Wesley 56 for 2 (in 5 Overs) Nalanda 46 for 4 In (5 Overs) - Wesley won by 10 runs.

A well attended social was held at the club house after the match. Royal were the host this year. Wesley beat Royal with 2 balls to spare. Wesley OBU Retained the Sam Thevathasan Memorial Trophy for the second year by beating Royal OBA by 3 Wickets in the last over in the over 35's Annual cricket match Played at Motspure Park, New Malden Surrey on Sunday 4 August 2002.The match was an over 35 per side. A good social was held after the match.

The Fourteenth Festival of Cricket

It was organised by the Sri Lanka old boys' associations in the UK was held on Bank holiday Monday 26 August 2002 at Shenley cricket Centre Radlett lane shenley. This years Festival was a resounding success. Wesley OBU UK took part in this event for the tenth year. The team Captained by A N Devarajah was knocked out in the First round. Wesley was going on well restricting Dharmaraja to 31 for 3.in the first 3 overs but all went wrong in the fourth over when seventeen runs was scored, yet Dharamaraja was able to win only with a ball to spare. Scores: Dharmaraja won the toss and asked Wesley to bat first. Wesley OBU 49 for 3 (5 overs) Jude Wimalasegaram 22 Dharmaraja OBA 51 for 3 (4.5 overs)
