Australian old boys' contribution to Rugby celebrations
PRESS RELEASE Wesley celebrates 50 years of the game they play in heaven Wesley College celebrates 50 years of Rugby Union with World Cup winning Coach and leading International Coach and Rugby personality, Australian Bob Dwyer attending the celebrations in Colombo over the weekend 23rd/24th September. Sponsored by the Kumar Group of Companies Sydney, Australia and distinguished Old Wesleyite Mike Siebel of Melbourne, he will be joined by his friend Kumar Group Chairman – Mr Dilip Kumar, former Chairman of the Australian Rugby Union, former Chairman of the New South Wales Rugby Union and International Rugby Board Delegate, and current World President of the International Association of Rugby 80. It is a coup for Wesley College with Bob Dwyer a much in demand Coach and rugby personality across the world. His achievements in the sphere of rugby union are many: Ø Coach of the World XV in 2005/2006 in games versus Scotland, Wales , England and South Africa, Ø Coach of the Australian Prime Minister’s XV versus Japan later this year, Ø Coach of the Barbarians, Ø He coached the Wallabies for ten years (1982-1983, 1988-195), 150 games and 74 Test matches including Australia’s first World Cup victory in 1991 beating England at Twickenham. Ø He is the longest serving and most successful coach in Australian rugby history and was once described by Stephen Jones, chief rugby writer for London's Sunday Times, as "perhaps the finest coach the game has ever seen". He is well-known and respected in every rugby playing nation. Ø He is the only coach who has been in charge for two World Cup campaigns - in 1991 in UK/Europe and in 1995 in South Africa, Ø Dwyer coached with a high degree of success in France (with the Racing Club of Paris in 1995-96) Ø In the United Kingdom (with Leicester from 1996 to 1998 and Bristol from 1998 to 2000), Ø He returned to Australia to take charge of the New South Wales Waratahs(Super 14 team) in 2001, handing the baton to one of his former charges, Ewen McKenzie, at the end of season 2003. He has coached many stars of the International game including the famous Ella brothers. A great after dinner speaker because of his many rugby experiences he is a true grass roots rugby supporter and will be the guest speaker at the 50th Jubilee Celebrations Dinner being held at the Transasia Hotel on Sunday evening 24 September.
