A Message from the Principal
Dear Wesleyites of ÔOne Fraternal BandÕ, I am pleased to extend my
best wishes for a Joyful 2010 to you all; to our steadfast Manager, Vice
Principal, sectional heads, valued teachers, affable students, supportive parents,
loyal Old Boys in Sri Lanka and abroad, committed members of the Welfare
Society, inspiring representatives of the Parent Teacher Association, the resolute
members of the Board of Governors, decisive members of the Standing Committee, and
all other well-wishers of the Wesley Community.
The year
2009 was a year of dramatic change and Wesley stood strong and responded to the
challenges. It is now time to bid farewell to the old year and usher in the New
Year with lots of energy and enthusiasm to build on our foundations of
traditional values.
Each New
Year comes with new expectations and new commitments and the year 2010 will
have a character of its own that we will have to face and conquer. It is time
do things that would make Wesley a different type of institution; a safe place
to study in harmony, play in friendship, bond together as one family; and
a place where our students learn to exceed academic excellence and learn values
to prepare them to make a worthy contribution to society, the country and
globally.
As we
commence the new school year, many parents and teachers may be want to know
what changes are proposed to lead Wesley on a path to success. We hope to focus
on teaching of English as a means to communicate with everyone. We will build
on our strengths to encourage all students to take part in public speaking and
oratory, especially after our exceptional achievement on winning the
Inter-school English debating championships this year. We will build on our
success at the Inter-school drama competition and the accolades earned by our Hewisi Band, Brass Band and the College Choir to enhance
the quality of Aesthetic studies at Wesley. We strive hard to repeat our
success in Rugby as Inter-school champions, to develop winning teams in
Cricket, Hockey, Soccer and Athletics, while stepping up our expectations to be
the best in Table Tennis, Basket Ball, Chess, and Badminton. We will look
forward to greater participation in Scouting and Cub Scouts. We will strive
hard to amplify the hearts and passions of all those who love Wesley too intensively
by producing more university entrants and a higher percentile of passes in GCE
O/L and A/L examinations.
Rich and
wonderful changes need not wait for days, weeks and months to come, in fact,
many changes had already taken place and the school have benefitted from those
changes. In 2010 you would be able to experience many traditional ideas veiled
with new inspirations advancing the goodwill and the ÒDouble BlueÓ brand image
of Wesley from moment to moment.
In closing
let me on behalf of the Manager, Staff and the Board of Governors wish you a
healthy and a very happy New Year and we can expect at the end of 2010 to
evaluate our contribution to the rich legacy of 136 years of excellence in
education at Wesley.
ÒOra et LaboraÓ
Dr. Shanti McLelland
